Ozone Disinfection

Healthy Plants Start with Clean Water.

Once you have removed particulate and biomatter from your water, disinfection may be the next step. There are many ways to do this, however, the best method for destroying pathogens is oxidation.

Of all the oxidizers known, ozone is the most powerful available.

Other oxidizers are used throughout the horticultural industry. These are often injected at great and recurring costs. Most of these chemicals are phytotoxic and some react with the nutrients in greenhouse water systems and become less effective.

No Harmful Chemicals.
No Pathogens.

Of all the disinfectant tools available, only ozone starts and ends with oxygen. While many disinfectants contain harmful chemicals, ozone breaks down into oxygen, a necessary element for healthy plant growth.

In fact, the byproduct from the ozonation reaction is higher levels of Dissolved Oxygen that cannot be achieved through oxygenation alone. This dissolved oxygen helps keep root zones clean, healthy and pathogen free.

Residual Benefits of Ozone

Ozone sanitizes at the contact tank, but also provides residual sanitation downstream in the plumbing and other equipment.

O3 quickly breaks down into O2, creating a supersaturated Dissolved Oxygen environment.

This benefits plants by promoting strong root growth and creating an aerobic environment.

The high DO aerobic environment promotes beneficial microbes while inhibiting most plant pathogens.

DRAMMwater designs and sells proper ozone systems taking into account flow and load. Many ozone systems fail because the provider fails to understand the process for dissolving the gas into water. Dramm systems are engineered for greater efficiency and safety by ensuring that the ozone gas is sufficiently dissolved and available for water disinfection.

Barrier Water Treatment vs Holistic Water Treatment with Complete Ozone Systems

Filtration systems, heat-pasturization and ultra-violet sanitation systems all employ a barrier to eliminate or prevent contaminants from moving down stream of the barrier. This method may remove undesirable components in your water, but they do not provide any residual sanitation in the plumbing and other equipment downstream and they do nothing to help promote the health of the crop.

Checking Oxygen Purity on Your Oxygen Concentrator

The oxygen concentrator is the lungs of your ozone system. Make sure that the O2 purity is above 90% to keep things running smoothly.
